Civic Involvement

Our firm promotes civic involvement and encourages its attorneys to be active members of the community.

All of our attorneys participate in the Mountain Area Volunteer Lawyer program and provide free legal assistance to individuals who could not otherwise retain an attorney to address their basic needs. Through this program, which is co-sponsored by the 28th Judicial District Bar and Pisgah Legal Services, our attorneys have helped financially-disadvantaged clients obtain protection from domestic abuse, remedy substandard housing, obtain relief from unfair business practices, and prepare wills and other personal planning documents.

In 2004 our firm received the North Carolina State Bar’s Outstanding Service Award for its contributions in providing pro bono services. Several of our attorneys also have received awards in recognition of their pro bono activities.

Our attorneys also contribute their time and talents to, and in many cases serve as directors or officers of various civic, religious and other non-profit community organizations. Among many others, these organizations have included:

  • 28th Judicial District Bar
  • Pisgah Legal Services
  • University of North Carolina Board of Governors
  • North Carolina State Bar Disciplinary Hearing Commission
  • The North Carolina State Bar Plan for Interest on Lawyers Trust Accounts
